The tides have turned! It’s getting brighter every day, and we’re starting to see the buds on the tree’s giving it a good ol’ go at opening. For some, like those suffering from hay fever, the season brings new challenges, but the days of desperately being huddled over a SAD lamp are hopefully over.
So, it’s time to shake off your winter skin routine also, as the seasons become less cod and drying and new challenges arise. First things first, seriously assess your skin care products. That old toner you’ve had for yonks? Chuck, it! If it didn’t have the desired result then, after sitting in your drawer for half a year it won’t now. Products, just like other perishable goods, are not meant to last forever. Throw out anything:
- Past the expiration date
- Appears dry or crusty
- That has changed consistency, colour, or smell
- With an SPF older than one year (SPF loses its effectiveness over time)
After doing this, you will have more of a curated skin care collection, from which you will more easily be able to determine what you actually need and what your skin actually likes. We suggest a toner which aims to refresh and revive, such as our Lavender, Aloe Vera and Peppermint toning spray, which you can use throughout the day over make up as a beautifully scented wake up call. Especially good if you work in an office.
As well as it getting brighter it’s also the time for pollen. If you do suffer from itchy and puffy discomfort during this time, having some eyeSlices might be a good idea. These Aloe Vera infused pads warm to your body temperature and last for 10 uses, good enough to get you through hay fever season
A good exfoliator can help circulation and scrub away the winter months. Exfoliation gets rid of the layer of dead skin cells, leaving a layer of fresher glowing skin which more readily is moisturised. The lovely Myroo Scrub gently exfoliates while nourishing and soothing the skin with Safflower Oil, Calendula Extract and the amazing smell of May Chang, a sparkly lemon type scent. If you’re a coffee person, Sister & Co have a hefty 350g Cocao and Coffee Scrub.
And remember, wear SPF! Protect your skin. If you do find however that you've been in the sun a little too long, this soothing and calming face mask can be made at home.
- 1 tablespoon of natural, plain yogurt.
- 1 tablespoon of honey.
- 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder.
Yogurt is filled with lactic acid which makes a visible difference to skin by lifting away rough and lacklustre surface cells to uncover much newer, brighter ones. Priyanka Chopra is a fan too. Thanks to the moisturising properties of honey, skin feels soft and elastic, and the turmeric is useful for combating pigmentation. The anti-inflammatory qualities can target pores and calm the skin. Tumeric is also known to reduce scarring, and is good for those with acne prone skin.
